The third season of the TVS Himalayan Highs has drawn to an end. The ride was flagged off from Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, on 1 September and concluded after scaling the Khardung La pass on 11 September.
While season 2 of Himalayan Highs was restricted only to women, two men were also a part of the 12-member group, this year. To qualify, the contestants were evaluated and shortlisted based on psychographics, physical fitness, mental strength and above all riding prowess. The finalists were then provided with safety and rider training. The TVS Scooty Zest 110 scooters used by contestants were specced with knobby tyres and rerouted air intake to make them better suited for the terrain.
Khardung La is a mountain pass in Ladakh, Kashmir, and is widely regarded as the world's highest motorable pass. The route to Khardung La consists of treacherous roads peaking at over 18,000 feet. In 2015, Anam Hashim rode the TVS Scooty Zest 110 to Khardung La, making it the first 110cc scooter to achieve this feat, earning the rider and the scooter a place in the India Book of Records. Since then, TVS has been holding annual rides to Khardung La under the banner ‘Himalayan Highs’.
