TVS Motors have tasted a fair bit of success with their XL moped. The two-wheeler crossed the one crore sales milestone recently.
The huge sales numbers might come as a surprise, knowing the Heavy Duty Super XL is a traditional moped, which does not get the latest wizardry. But the two-wheeler is sold in rural markets and still has a respectable demand. This is mainly because the bike serves as a cheap mode of transport, is lightweight and though it weighs only 66kgs is a strong machine to withstand tough conditions.
The Heavy Duty Super XL is powered by a 69.9cc, two-stroke, single-cylinder petrol engine that produces 3.5bhp of power and 5.0Nm of torque and comes mated to an automatic gearbox. The bike gets a kickstart, an analog speedometer, spoke wheels and drum brakes.
To mark this occasion, TVS Motor company has launched a special edition of the moped that comes with special decals, a dual texture seat, exhaust cover and a chrome plated grab rail. It will be offered in two colours - silver grey and titanium grey.
K N Radhakrishnan, President and CEO, TVS Motor Company, "What began as a dream to give people a reliable and robust two-wheeler for the family, which was simultaneously affordable, has gradually grown to become one of the few brands that since inception has sold more than one crore in the country. It is a much sought-after vehicle for personal mobility by people all over the country and overseas."
The XL moped was launched in India in 1980 and is more of a basic two-wheeler that doesn't get all lucrative features that motorcycles and scooters today boast of. But the XL moped is targeted at the rural audience who just need a two-wheeler for commute and rough usage. The Heavy Duty Super XL is a robust vehicle that will withstand harsh conditions and is very low on maintenance.
