TVS Motor Company has confirmed the launch of its first bike that will be co-developed with its German partner, BMW Motorrad, in the second half of the next calendar year. This news was confirmed by the top official of the company during the launch of the Star City+ in Chennai.
The company said the first bike will be developed on a completely new platform and till now the progress has been good. TVS Motor Company and BMW Motorrad in April last year, entered into a pact to develop and manufacture motorcycles, below 500cc in India, to be marketed globally. However, the motorcycles will be sold through their respective networks. The top honcho also said that the companies were in the process of finalising the number of units to be jointly manufactured under the pact.
"I know we have been silent on TVS and BMW since we had the tie-up. It is going to be ready by the second half of the next calendar year. All the work is under progress," said Venu Srinivasan, chairman, TVS Motor Company.
We believe the TVS-BMW partnership is going to end like Bajaj-KTM alliance. There will be one product sold in two different badgings with few cosmetic and mechanical changes. We hope the products from TVS and BMW don’t canabalise on each other’s products, like the way it is happening with the Pune and Austria- based manufacturer.
