Two-wheelers in Maharashtra are set to cost more from April 1, thanks to the new budget presented by the government. This new directive is bound to affect all the manufacturers, especially the premium makers.
As per this new policy, two-wheelers with an engine capacity of up to 99cc will be attract 8 per cent tax - an increase of one per cent as compared to the previous taxation. Two-wheelers with an engine capacity between 100cc to 299cc will be levied with 9 per cent of tax which is an increase of two per cent. Two-wheelers with engine capacity more than 300cc will attract a road tax of 10 per cent, an increase of three percent. This increase is applicable to vehicles that’ll be registered for personal use.
The government has also doubled the taxation on imported and commercial vehicles. These vehicles will now attract taxation of 20 per cent from 10 per cent. This will heavily affect manufacturers like Harley-Davidson, Kawasaki, Ducati, Triumph and MV Agusta as they import majority of their products from other countries. The reason for increase in tax is to garner additional revenue for the government.
