United Motorcycles Global, the US motorcycle manufacturer based in Miami, will be launching some motorcycles from their portfolio in India. These two-wheelers are expected to be priced in the range of Rs 75,000 to Rs 1.5lakh.
The company had displayed a few motorcycles from its line-up at the recently concluded Auto Expo. These included the Duty, Sport and Commando from the Renegade Cruiser segment and the Xtreet from their sports line-up. The manufacturer will enter the Indian two-wheeler market with the introduction of 200cc to 280cc segment of motorcycles. The Xtreet will be launched sometime later.
To start off, the company will initially introduce the following cruiser motorcycles-
• Renegade Commando (223 cc, single-cylinder)
• Limited Edition Renegade Commando (same engine)
• Renegade Sport (223cc)
• Renegade Sport (200cc)
The festive season in the third quarter of the year might be a good time for UM Global to launch the motorcycles. No specific joint venture mentioned, nevertheless, the manufacturer seems to be in an advance stage of beginning with the assembly or production of its bikes in India. This might be along with a partner which would be disclosed in sometime soon.
Rajeev Mishra, Director of UM India Two Wheelers, said, "Unlike other companies, we are not importing bikes from the US. We are planning to assemble bikes in India to achieve cost competitiveness. We will go for localisation and plan to start with at least 50 per cent content sourced from the Indian market."
