After showcasing its motorcycles at the 2014 Auto Expo, Miami-based UM Motorcycles will debut its India operations with a 400cc motorcycle. This motorcycle could either come in the form of a scrambler or a cruiser, however, we expect it to be the latter because of its wide acceptance in the market.
As per a report, the company is in the process of developing a 400cc engine and will be heavily tested to meet the Indian road conditions. This motorcycle will be manufactured at Lohia Auto’s facility in Uttarakhand. Both the companies had entered into a partnership, where UM Motorcycles will utilise Lohia’s facility to manufacture and stock all their products. Their initial target is to sell around 1 lakh units per annum.
The company plans to go ahead with full-fledged Indian operations after they showcase their entire range at the 2016 Auto Expo. This would also give them the time to gauge the response they get from the Indian market. UML sells various motorcycle types like the cruiser, dual sport and the naked.
