UM Motorcycles is gearing up to launch some of its motorcycles at upcoming 2016 Auto Expo. And one of the first motorcycles that will be launched by the company is the Renegade Sport S.
The American manufacturer had displayed the Renegade Sport S at the 2015 EICMA show which is being held in Milan, Italy. While the model on display was not a production ready one, BikeWale was assured that not many things are going to change. Currently, along with its Indian partner Lohia, UM is working on localising a majority of the components. At the time of launch, more than 50 per cent of the bike’s components will be manufactured locally, that will help them price the bike competitively.
One of the top honchos of UM Motorcycles informed BikeWale that they are looking to price the Renegade Sport S between Rs 1.6 lakh and Rs 1.8 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Their earlier plan was to keep the price under Rs 2 lakh on-road, however, due to logistical and operational issues, they are unable to do it presently.
UM Motorcycles claim that with its new products, it doesn’t plan to compete with the Royal Enfield motorcycles because both are in different segments. However, at the above mentioned price point, the American bikes will compete with the Royal Enfields. The company will be manufacturing these bikes at Lohia’s facility in Uttarakhand, which has a production capacity of 1 lakh units per year.
Stay tuned to BikeWale as we get you more information on the new UM Motorcycles.
