BMW Motorrad is working on an updated version of its globally popular adventure tourer, the R 1250 GS. To be called the R1300GS, the motorcycle was first spied in June this year with a lot of body cladding to hide its bodywork. However, a new test mule of the R1300GS was spied recently which gave away a lot of its design.
BMW is clearly departing from the existing asymmetrical front design of the R 1250 GS and has made way for a more conventional headlamp section. However, the refreshed bodywork seems to be sharper and more aerodynamic. Even the fuel tank section appears to have a more sculpted shape with deeper contours.
The biggest change in the motorcycle, apart from its design, will be in terms of displacement. The shape of the test mule’s cylinder heads looks bigger and protrudes more on the sides testifying to the displacement bump. Moreover, the cylinder heads of the test mules were accompanied by crash protectors. Other changes are likely to come in the form of updated features like a larger TFT display, radar-based cruise control, cornering lights, and a blind-spot detection system.
The new BMW R1300GS is likely to be globally unveiled sometime next year and it will continue to compete against the likes of the Triumph Tiger 1200, Harley-Davidson Pan America 1250, and the Ducati Multistrada V4.
