A few months ago, we saw BMW Motorrad testing a camouflaged touring prototype of the S1000R, which is expected to be called S1000F. French designer Nicolas Petit has now rendered the upcoming S1000F for the German design company Wunderlich.
Just like the S1000R, the touring version will be based on the supersport S1000R platform. The handlebar design is upright which clearly shows its touring-oriented seating position. It gets a new headlamp design, a new seat and the grab rail is big to accommodate various touring accessories.
Mechanically, BMW may detune the engine and concentrate more on delivering low end torque. The BMW S1000F will compete with the Ducati Multistrada and the Triumph Tiger Explorer. But this new motorcycle may eat into customers from their GS models that are looking for a more tarmac-focused touring motorcycle. The BMW S1000F might debut at the Intermot 2014 in October.
