- To be powered by the same engine as the current 650s
- Gets spoked wheels
- Could borrow the bodywork from the Interceptor 650
Royal Enfield’s upcoming offering, likely to be dubbed the Sherpa 650, has been spotted testing again. The test mule seen in the spy shots here gives a better look at the probable production model.
Similar to the current 650cc trio from Royal Enfield (Interceptor 650, Continental GT 650, and Super Meteor 650), the Sherpa too could feature a round LED headlight. But it gets a headlight grill for added protection during a crash. Speaking of the bodywork, the fuel tank, the single-piece seat, and the side panels look similar to the Interceptor.
Royal Enfield will use its current 648cc parallel-twin motor for the Sherpa 650. It could dish out 47bhp and 52Nm and will be mated to a six-speed gearbox. Even the chassis on the Sherpa 650 looks similar to the Interceptor’s unit but it’s suspended on USD front forks and dual rear shocks. The braking hardware on the test bike includes a single front and rear disc with ABS.
It rides on spoked front and rear wheels that come with proper off-road-ready tyres. The Sherpa will also get a bash plate for underbelly protection because of its scrambler purpose. A closer look at the front turn indicators and you’ll also see auxiliary lights below them.
As per our sources, Royal Enfield would likely launch the new Sherpa 650 in 2024. It’ll be positioned above the Interceptor and below the new Super Meteor in RE’s lineup.
