- Updated Aprilia SR 160 likely to be in the works
- Could get a revised styling and more features
- Launch expected to take place around the festive season
The Aprilia SR 160 is one of the most exciting and sporty scooters available in India. The performance and handling dynamics it offers are difficult to match by any other scooter at present. However, it feels fairly long in the tooth now, especially with a styling that hasn’t witnessed any major change until now. It’s also lagging behind in terms of features. Interestingly, this might change soon as Piaggio is reportedly working on an updated model of the Aprilia SR 160 sport scooter.
The news was confirmed by Piaggio India’s Chairman and MD, Diego Graffi, in a recent interview. So we might see a minor nip and tuck in the SR 160’s body work. This might include sharper panels, restyled headlamp and tail lamp and a fresh set of decals. The feature list could also be updated with the inclusion of things like a more comprehensive instrument cluster, more storage provisions, an engine start-stop switch and a side stand engine cut-off switch.
As is the case with Aprilia scooters right now, the same design and feature updates will also be handed down to the SR 160’s smaller siblings - the Aprilia SR 125 and the Storm 125. As for the launch timeline of the facelifted SR 160, Graffi has clearly stated that it will take place around the festive season this year. Now, it remains to be seen how hefty a price hike these changes result in. The prices of the SR 160 currently start at Rs 1,06,581 (ex-showroom, Delhi).
