- Will get a completely different bodywork
- Spotted testing overseas
- Likely to feature the new 399cc motor and a host of upgrades
While KTM has been making headlines for various reasons including its 390 Adventure range debut as well as the global crisis due to its bankruptcy, the Austrian bikemaker is also cooking more on the sidelines. Its upcoming sports bike, the RC 390 has been spotted testing in an updated form and here is what it looks like.
It's quite evident that the third generation of the KTM RC 390 will look radically different from its predecessors. The test bike seen here gets a centre-set projector LED headlight tucked in what appears to be a single-piece fairing. It also hosts the transparent bubble visor flanked by the mirrors. KTM has equipped the upcoming RC 390 test mule with large side vents which should aid in cooling its high-compression single-cylinder motor. The fuel tank design and the rear seat as well as the tail appear heavily revised and profound.
KTM also seems to have revised the chassis but it still is a trellis frame. It is likely to house the same 399cc liquid-cooled engine that the current 390 Duke uses. The motor makes 44.25bhp and 39Nm and comes linked to a six-speed gearbox. We expect the updated RC 390 to get the same setup and performance figures as well.
Meanwhile, its list of electronics could include LED illumination, a TFT with smartphone connectivity, a bi-directional quickshifter, switchable ABS, ride modes, traction control, and more. KTM will equip the RC 390 with USD front forks and a monoshock and we expect both springs to offer rebound and compression adjustability. Its braking hardware will include a front and rear disc with dual-channel ABS. These will be mounted on 17-inch alloy wheels.
With so many upgrades to the KTM RC 390, we expect it to cost notably more than the current model which retails at Rs. 3.21 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
