The TVS Akula 310, rumoured to be christened Apache 310 RR, has been spotted undergoing trials near Bangalore. Unlike previous test mules, this motorcycle featured fairing-mounted mirrors.
While the TVS Akula has been caught on camera several times, the test mules featured handlebar mounted mirrors, which is a little odd for a fully-faired motorcycle. Now however, it seems like the production model will feature faring-mounted mirrors. To make it production feasible, TVS has revised the design of Akula as compared to the original concept. The front-end gets a twin headlamp setup with a tall windscreen. The tail section now gets a pillion seat while the race-spec exhaust has been ditched in favour of a conventional end can. The clip-on handlebars have also been raised to make it more comfortable for everyday use.
At the heart of the Akula is a 313cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine, mated to a six-speed transmission. This engine has been borrowed from the BMW G310R, which is expected to be launched in India next year year. The Akula will be TVS' first fully-faired production motorcycle, and will compete against the KTM RC200.
