The recently launched Bajaj V15 seems to be a market favourite with sales of 24,057 last month. The motorcycle has even crossed the estimated sales figure from Bajaj itself and has gone on to put it at the third spot surpassing TVS in terms of sales.
Shortly after its launch the Vice President of Marketing for Bajaj, Sumeet Narang, had said that he is expecting that the monthly sales for this bike will stay close to 15,000-20,000 units a month. The V15 sold only 1,442 units in February because of limited production. Soon after, Bajaj said it would be increasing the production numbers of the V15 to 1,000 units a day at its Pantnagar and Waluj plants.
In March, Bajaj sold 16,532 units of the 150cc motorcycle. However, in April it sold 24,057 units of the V15. This also contributed to the overall sales figure of Bajaj to up a considerable 12.85 per cent leading to an overall sales total to above that of TVS.
At third, Bajaj is still behind the giants like Hero Moto Corp and Honda two-wheelers and marginally above TVS with a difference of less than 3,000 units.
The Bajaj V15 gets a 150cc single-cylinder engine, based on the same DTSi engine from the Avenger. It delivers 12bhp at 7500rpm and peak torque of 13Nm at 5500rpm. This engine is mated to a five-speed transmission. The 18-inch front wheel rides on conventional 33mm telescopic front forks while the 16-inch rear wheel rides on dual springs.
The competitive pricing and distinctive styling on the V15 are the two major factors that have played a role for these high sales numbers.
