Valentino Rossi has pocketed his 113th Grand Prix victory by winning the Spanish MotoGP at the Jerez circuit. The 37-year-old Italian started the race from the pole position, maintaining the lead till he crossed the chequered flag.
Unlike the previous drama-filled races, the Spanish Grand Prix was quite uneventful, with Rossi dominating the race right from the first corner. His Movistar Yamaha team mate Jorge Lorenzo and Repsol Honda rider Marc Marquez tried in vain to catch up with Rossi, eventually having to settle for second and third position. Marquez’s team mate Dani Pedrosa finished fourth while Suzuki Ecstar rider Aleix Espargaro made up the top five.
Speaking about his victory, Rossi said, “I felt good from Friday, we worked very well. I have to say a big thank you to all my team and crew, the bike was fantastic. Today the desire was very high, because my last victory was last year in Silverstone. After that, Marquez win, Lorenzo win, Pedrosa win, me no. So today was my turn."
Despite this win, Rossi continues to be on the third spot in the overall championship standings, below Marquez and Lorenzo. The next round of MotoGP will take place on May 8 at the LeMans track in France.
