VanderHeide‘s 201bhp, V4, carbon everything motorcycle

Here is VanderHeide’s ultra-expensive motorcycle which was unveiled at last month’s Goodwood Festival of Speed. The motorcycle manufacturer also went on to reveal that the motorcycle was under development from five years and will come in ‘track-only’ form as an option.

The motorcycle will come in two avatars – the road legal option which comes in at 175kg dry and will be limited to 201bhp from the Aprilia RSV4 engine. The track model will take the power output to 230bhp and it will weigh 10kg less at 165kg dry. The bike uses a carbon fibre swing arm as well carbon fibre wheels from BST. Other additions include the Motec race instrument panel and Brembo brakes.

The motorcycle has come together as the work of brothers Rolf and Sjors Van der Heide. Sjors explained how it came about, “It’s my brother Rolf’s story really. Our father is a motorcyclist and as long as we remember we’ve always wanted to ride them and to build one. Rolf has an engineering background, I have a business administration background. He does all the engineering, I do the talking. That’s the combination. It all started in 2011 when Rolf decided to build his own bike. Before that he worked with Spyker, the supercar brand, and with Carver (makers of a tilting three-wheeled vehicle). After that he specialised in carbon fibre.”

If you are wondering why the forks can’t be seen, it’s because the motorcycle has none. It rides on a Hossack-style girder fork. Made of carbon, the girders are mounted on double wishbones, using a pushrod and rocker to compress an Öhlins TTX36 shock mounted between the petrol tank.

Sjors was quoted as saying, “There were two main ideas. The first was to use carbon fibre as the base material and second idea was to use his own suspension system, because he was never really pleased with telescopic forks.”

The motorcycle also features a carbon monocoque construction which is an industry first. To just give you how extreme a feat of engineering this motorcycle is, the radiator is mounted on the tail of bike! VanderHeide is accepting pre-orders and hopes to begin production soon. Price you ask? The standard variant will come in at 1.5 lakh Euros which translates to Rs 1.1 crore… Add custom duties to that and you are closing in on the Rs 2 crore mark.
