Vespa India recently launched the 946 Dragon edition in India. The limited edition scooter was launched to commemorate the Lunar New Year of Hong Kong and there are only a few thousand scooters up for grabs across the world. Here are its top five highlights.
Design
The Vespa 946 looks stunning in every sense of the word. Its beautifully styled front apron, with the ‘Wasp’ style inspiration as seen with the swooping tail section is what grabs attention. Other details that stand out are the tail rack, the gills on the side panels and the floating effect of the rider’s seat. Specific to the Vespa Dragon 946 is the light gold colour on the bodywork and the contrasting graphics of a dragon in emerald green.
Features
The scooter has an LED headlight and tail light, a digital display and dual-channel ABS as standard.
Engine and hardware
The Vespa 946 Dragon is available in only one engine option. It is a 155cc, air-cooled, single cylinder engine. The unit is nestled inside a monocoque chassis that is suspended by a single-arm shock absorber at the front and a five-step, preload adjustable shock absorber at the rear.
The scooter rides on 12-inch wheels on both ends and these are shod with a 120/70 section tyre at the front and a 130/70 section tyre at the rear. Braking duties are taken care of by a 220mm discs at both ends.
Limited edition
This is a rather exclusive scooter when you consider the fact that it is limited to only 1,888 units worldwide. Out of these, only a few will make it to our shores and will be allotted on a first come, first served basis.
Price
At Rs 14.27 lakh, ex-showroom, the Vespa 946 is expensive. It costs more than the BMW C 400 GT which is priced at Rs 11.25 lakh. It has more features and a much more powerful, 350cc engine. Nevertheless, there is no price for exclusivity for some people and for them, the Vespa 946 would make complete sense.
