- New Elegante 149 gets BS6-compliant motor
- Features three catalytic convertors
- To be launched soon
Piaggio India has revealed the details of the Vespa Elegante BS6 ahead of its India launch. The new Elegante 149 will replace the BS4-compliant Elegante 150. Two-wheelers with 149cc engines benefit from a relatively lower insurance rate than the those with a displacement of 150cc or above. Piaggio will be able to offer the 149cc scooters at a relatively affordable price tag.
The Vespa Elegante 149 uses a 149cc, single-cylinder motor with Variable Spark Timing Management and three catalytic convertors. The engine is tuned to produce 10.2bhp of power at 7,600rpm and 10.6Nm of torque at 5,500rpm. In comparison, the Elegante 150 used a 154.8cc motor that produced 11.4bhp and 11.5Nm.
The Elegante 149 will retain the styling cues and the cycle parts of its predecessor. Thus, the anchoring power will come from a disc brake at the front and a drum unit at the back. The safety net on the scooter will include a single-channel ABS. Apart from the design and the cycle parts, the dimensions, too, will remain unaltered. The colour options include Bianco Perla and Beige Unico.
The company is yet to reveal the prices for the Elegante 149. Meanwhile, Piaggio India has revealed the prices of the SXL 149 and the VXL 149. The SXL 149 has been listed for Rs 1,26,650 while the VXL 149 will be offered at Rs 1,22,664 (both ex-showroom Delhi prices).
