Piaggio is planning to launch the Vespa GTS 300 in India in the first quarter of 2017. While the initial lot of scooters will be CBUs, the company is working towards making it a locally-assembled SKD model.
Like the other Vespa scooters, the GTS 300 features a blend of retro styling and modern technology. It features round chrome-rimmed headlamp and classic body lines in line with the Vespa scooters from the 1960s. The Vespa GTS 300 also gets the punch to match its looks, courtesy a 278cc single-cylinder engine. This liquid-cooled fuel-injected unit delivers 21.1bhp and 22.3Nm of torque through a CVT transmission. The GTS 300 rides on 12-inch wheels, both of which get a 220mm disc brake. It also gets a traction control system and ABS.
We can expect the Vespa GTS 300 to be priced between Rs 5 lakh and Rs 6 lakh as a CBU. The move from CBU to SKD however will lead to a significant drop in the sticker price as locally (SKD) assembled models fall under a lower tax bracket.
