Piaggio has launched the Vespa RED scooter in India at Rs 87,009(ex-showroom, Mumbai). The scooter is based on the VXL 125 and features an all-red theme.
The Vespa RED is a collaboration between Piaggio and charitable organisation, RED. The scooter is built to contribute to a good cause as $50 from the sale of each unit of the Vespa RED will go to support the fight against AIDS.
Underneath the RED theme, the scooter is a VXL 125. It uses a 125cc air-cooled engine that produces 9.90bhp and 10.60Nm of torque.
When the Vespa RED initiative was launched in 2016 in Rome, Piaggio used the 946. The 946 was recently discontinued in India as it did not do well due to its heavy price tag. This Vespa RED is made exclusively for India.
The scooter will not have any competition in the Indian market although it is priced close to the SXL 125 and VXL 150. Bookings for the scooter have already begun and deliveries will commence by next month.
