Piaggio is going to launch the Vespa RED in India on 3 October. A replacement for the 946 Emporio Armani, the Vespa RED is expected to sport a price tag of around Rs 13 lakhs.
The Vespa RED is essentially the 2017 version of the Vespa 946, and is powered by the same 125cc four-stroke, air-cooled, fuel-injected engine. This engine delivers 11.4bhp and 10.3Nm of torque, and is mated to a CVT transmission. The Vespa RED features ABS and a traction control. It gets a cherry red finish, with components like the chrome rack, bag hook and mirrors adding a premium touch. It even gets LED headlamps and a digital instrument console.
The Vespa RED is a collaborative project between Piaggio and (RED), which is an NGO fighting against AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria in African countries. For each Vespa RED sold, Piaggio will donate USD 150 (Rs 9,808) towards the NGO’s global fund. With such an astronomical price tag, the Vespa RED won’t have any direct competition in the Indian market.
