The month of July 2023 will possibly be the most action-packed month of the year as we expect to witness the launch of up to five new bikes and scooters in India. These will include two modern-classic roadsters, a neo-retro scrambler, an electric scooter, and a fully-faired motorcycle. The list includes the Harley Davidson X440, Triumph Speed 400, Scrambler 400 X, a new Ola S1 electric scooter and possibly the Hero Xtreme 200S.
Harley Davidson X440
The Harley-Davidson X440 is scheduled to be launched in India today, 3 July, 2023. The X440 will be manufactured in India by Hero MotoCorp, and will be the most affordable Harley-Davidson to be sold in India. The X440’s design is inspired by the Harley-Davidson XR1200 and features a neo-retro styling that includes a round headlamp, a boxy fuel tank, an off-set instrument cluster, and a short tail section. It gets a flat handlebar, full-LED lighting, a fully-digital console, and dual-channel ABS.
The motorcycle will be powered by a 440cc, air and oil-cooled engine, which is likely to be a torque-heavy, long-stroke motor. As for the cycle parts, the motorcycle will get an 18-inch alloy wheel at the front, and a 17-inch unit at the rear. Suspension hardware will include upside-down front forks and twin springs at the back. The X440 will compete against the Royal Enfield Classic 350, Honda Hness CB 350 and the upcoming Triumph Speed 400. It is likely to be priced at around Rs. 2.50 lakh (ex-showroom).
Triumph 400 Twins
Triumph recently unveiled two new 400cc motorcycles, the Speed 400 and the Scrambler 400 X. The Speed 400 is a neo-retro roadster and the smallest offering in the Triumph Speed family. On the other hand, the Scrambler 400 X is an entry point into the Triumph Scrambler family and draws styling inspiration from the Scrambler 900.
While the Triumph Speed 400 is the sportier road-going version with 17-inch wheels at both ends, the Scrambler 400 X is the outdoorsy rough-road biased motorcycle with 19-inch front and 17-inch rear wheels. Both motorcycles use the same 398.15cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder motor that makes 39.5bhp at 8,000rpm and 37.5Nm at 6,500rpm. The motor is paired with a six-speed gearbox. The Triumph 400 twins will be launched in India on 5 July, and we expect them to be priced between Rs. 2.60 lakh to Rs. 3 lakh (ex-showroom).
New Ola S1 Electric Scooter
Ola Electric has released a teaser which indicates the company is planning to launch a new electric scooter based on the Ola S1 Pro. Although we don’t have enough details about the new scooter, we expect it to be an entry-level offering which may be positioned below the Ola S1 Air. The company has also teased two new colour options for its range of scooters, which we believe will be offered on the S1 Air.
Hero Xtreme 200S 4V
The 2023 Hero Xtreme 200S 4V was recently leaked during a dealer showcase at Hero’s annual dealer conference in Goa. As a part of the MY2023 update, the motorcycle will feature an updated four-valve, 200cc, oil-cooled engine. This is the same single-cylinder engine that powers the Xpulse 200 4V and produces 18.9bhp and 17.35Nm. It is linked to a five-speed gearbox. Now, Hero hasn’t officially revealed that the Xtreme 200S will be launched this month. However, with the Xtreme 160R 4V already launched last month, and the new Hero Karizma XMR 210 scheduled for launch in September 2023, we believe the 200S 4V will be launched this month. We expect the Xtreme 200S 4V to be priced at around Rs. 1.40 lakh (ex-showroom).
