It's confirmed! Ducati is not up for sale. Volkswagen has decided not to sell this Italian bike brand after serious objections were put forth by its labour union and employees.
The German giant had decided to sell Ducati to offset the cost that is being incurred for its diesel emission scandal. But as soon as this news broke out, the company's labour union protested as this would lead to job losses.
Early this year, the company had received interests from various motorcycle companies. India's Eicher Motors and America's Harley-Davidson are two such companies which made contact. Volkswagen's Audi had purchased Ducati in 2012 for $981 million USD. After being acquired, Ducati has been able to increase its market share, thanks to new products like the XDiavel and Multistrada 950. It will be interesting to see how its parent company will plan its growth while still in the throes of the emission scandal.
