Honda has launched its latest offering, the Cliq, which is an entry-level scooter, based on the Honda Navi and has the same 110cc, 8bhp engine. It is aimed at the rural market and is the most affordable scooter yet from Honda priced at ₹ 42,500 (ex-showroom Delhi).
Cheap it might be, but there’s a decent selection of two-wheelers one can opt for at this price point. We have considered all petrol-powered two-wheelers for this story that cost plus or minus ₹ 5,000 from the Cliq’s retail cost. All prices ex-showroom in Delhi.
Here’s what the grid looks like.
If a scooter is what you are looking for, the Cliq has a sibling in the form of the 110cc Honda Navi, which retails for ₹ 41,500. For ₹ 4,000 less, one can also opt for the TVS Scooty Pep Plus that has a list price of ₹ 39,950. It is small though, both in size and engine capacity. It displaces 88cc. The Pep Plus features all the basic knick-knacks like a push and pull bag holder, bag hooks, glove box and has a company-claimed fuel efficiency of 65kmpl.
Not surprisingly, there are more options in the motorcycle segment at this price point. Right at the top in terms of sales is the Hero HF Deluxe. Built on the tried and tested Splendor-based sloper engine platform, the HF is known for its bulletproof build and high fuel economy. It’s a no-nonsense bike for those looking at a relentless commute. It is priced at ₹ 42,830.
There’s also the TVS duo of the Sport and Star City Plus that retail for ₹ 37,280 and ₹ 45,290, respectively. Both are targetedat commuters and can claim a comfortable ride and high fuel economy as their USPs. The Sport returns 95kmpl while the claimed figure for the Star City is 86kmpl.
The Mahindra Centuro falls into this price segment as well. It costs ₹ 43,250 and is seriously feature-rich for this class of bikes. It gets a flip-open key with 96-bit secure access, an engine immobilizer, anti-theft alarm, DTE (distance to empty), find-me lamps and LED parking lights.
