The Ducati Multistrada 950 is the newest addition to the brand's adventure touring range in the country. It is the smallest capacity member in the Multistrada family and also the most affordable at Rs 12.6 lakh (all prices ex-showroom). But if you are ready to spend up to Rs 13.6 lakh, here is a list of alternatives you should also look at in this price bracket.
At around the same ex-showroom Delhi price of Rs 12.58 lakh, Ducati offers the Hyperstrada 939 too. In fact, the latter is a cross between the Hypermotard and the Multistrada. Nonetheless, keep in mind that the 950 will be much comfortable on long trips. Extend your budget and at Rs 12.9 lakh you get the perfect competitor - a Honda Africa Twin. This name is inseparable from the spirit of the world's toughest Dakar rally raids. In fact, this top-of-the-line DCT (automatic transmission) variant is now offered in India too, making it the only automatic adventure tourer here. But then, for the price of Rs 13,06,290, Triumph's rather versatile Tiger 800 XCx is also up for grabs. And, if you can extend your budget to a sticker price of Rs 13 lakh and don't mind cruisers, there are two twin-cylinder power cruisers too. Yes, we are talking about the Indian Scout Sixty (Rs 12,94,904) and the Harley Davidson Fat Bob (Rs 13,19,000).
For the price of a Ducati Multistrada 950, you can get some fully-faired motorcycles too. For example, the Triumph Daytona 675R is priced at Rs 12,14,550. So, you not only save some money, but also get a true track day tool. Add a little more moolah and you can have Kawasaki's litre-class sports tourer - the Ninja 1000 (Rs 12,50,000). And if you are really smitten by superbikes with big fairings, you just can't miss to consider Suzuki's GSX-S1000F priced at Rs 12,70,000. Both the latter two litre-class bikes provide a sporty performance, but as a more street-friendly package.
However, if you don't really want to extend your budget, and in fact, would love to save some money from this purchase, read further. There's another entry-level adventure tourer from Triumph. Yes, you guessed it right, it’s the Tiger 800 XRx. Priced at Rs 11,95,450, it has the features and capability to take the fight to the Ducati Multistrada 950 in the adventure touring segment. Furthermore, if you have a thing for naked or semi-faired motorcycles, there are very few options here. The Honda CB1000R is priced at Rs 11,81,756, while the Benelli TNT R costs Rs 11,86,000. While the former is known for its refined engine and adrenaline-packed yet friendly performance, the latter offers the raw, evergreen and exciting riding experience from an Italian motorcycle, but it also lacks electronic aids.
