Triumph has launched the updated Tiger Explorer which is now available at Rs 18.75 lakhs (ex-showroom). Apart from its direct competition like the BMW R1200 GS Adventure , Ducati Multistrada 1200 Enduro and the Aprilia Caponard 1200 Rally you could opt for a few other motorcycles from different segments. Here is what the list of the ‘others’ looks like.
While the Tiger Explorer has quite a lot of off-roading capability, there are some adventure-touring motorcycles that prefer to be more road-biased. The Aprilia Caponard 1200 ABS Travel is one such example. The bike uses alloy wheels and sports a 1197cc V-twin engine. The engine produces 125bhp and 115Nm of torque and the bike is priced at Rs 18.46 lakhs (ex-showroom). The Germans also have an entry in the segment with the BMW S 1000 XR. The XR is a dual-purpose motorcycle and has a design like its supersport sibling. The bike uses a 999cc inline-four engine derived from the S1000 RR that delivers 160bhp and 112Nm of torque through a six-speed gearbox.It is priced at Rs 18.14 lakhs (ex-showroom).
The Indian market also offers four dedicated track machines- the BMW S1000 RR, Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R, Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade and the newly launched Suzuki GSX-R1000. The BMW S1000 RR uses a 999cc in-line four cylinder engine which produces 199bhp at 13,500rpm and 113Nm of torque at 10,500rpm mated to a six speed gearbox. The bike features electronics like race ABS, riding modes, electronic damping control and multi-level traction control. The BMW S1000 RR has a price tag of Rs 19.17 lakhs (ex-showroom). The track maniac from Kawasaki also uses an in-line four cylinder engine. The ZX-10R’s 998cc engine produces 197bhp of power at 13,000rpm and 113Nm of torque at 11,500rpm. The ZX-10R features a 5-axis Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU), launch control, engine brake control, traction control and quickshifter. The bike is priced at Rs 18.80 lakhs (ex-showroom). The CBR1000RR Fireblade is Honda’s flagship supersport motorcycle. The bike uses an in-line four cylinder 999cc engine which churns out 186bhp and 114Nm of torque. It is priced at Rs 18.48 lakhs (ex-showroom). Suzuki recently launched the all-new GSX-R1000 at Rs 18.47 lakhs (ex-showroom). The bike sports an in-line four cylinder engine that generates 196bhp of power and 118Nm of torque. The GSX-R1000 features electronics like 10-level traction control and a motion tracking braking system.
Another entrant from Team Green is the Kawasaki ZX-14R. the sport-tourer uses a 1441cc liquid-cooled engine that produces 200bhp and maximum torque of 158Nm. The bike is priced at Rs 19.70 lakhs (ex-showroom). BMW also offers a touring motorcycle in the form of the R 1200 RT. The bagger uses a 1170cc boxer-twin engine that puts out 124bhp and 125Nm of torque. It is priced at Rs 18.14 lakhs (ex-showroom).
In this price range, one also has a couple of Italian streetfighters to choose from. One is the MV Agusta Brutale 1090 which has design features that mix raw appeal with beauty. It uses a 1,078 cc in-line four-cylinder engine which churns out 142bhp at 10,300rpm and 112Nm at 8,100rpm. The Brutale 1090 is priced at Rs 19.54 lakhs (ex-showroom). The second Italian comes from Aprilia. The Aprilia Tuono V4 1100 is the naked version of the RSV4 and uses a 1077cc V4 engine that produces 175bhp at 11,000rpm and peak torque of 121Nm at 9000rpm. The bike is priced at Rs 18.20 lakhs (ex-showroom).
Also available for a similar price is the Ducati Diavel Carbon. The power-cruiser uses a 1200cc Testastretta L-Twin engine which produces 160bhp at 9250rpm and peak torque of 130Nm at 8000rpm. The Diavel has a strong road presence because of its styling. The bike features a beefy tank and exposed trellis frame to give it a raw look. The Diavel Carbon is priced at Rs 19.32 lakhs (ex-showroom). To complete the list, the Indian market also offers the Harley Davidson Heritage Softail Classic. The manufacturer’s Softail range is full touring motorcycles and the Heritage Classic is no different. The bike features sweptback handlebars, tank-mounted clocks, a horseshoe tank and the extensive use of chrome giving it the traditional cruiser look. The Heritage Classic uses a 1690cc air-cooled V-twin engine delivering 124Nm of torque through a six-speed transmission. It is priced at Rs 18.66 lakhs (ex-showroom).
