Erik Buell Racing unveiled the 1190RX super bike at the 2013 American International Show few weeks ago. This street legal high performance motorcycle that is based on the 1190RS superbike is the only production motorcycle from the American manufacturer. The American manufacturer has been able to develop this motorcycle because of Hero MotoCorp who pumped in money in the form on investment. Hero MotoCorp currently owns 49.2 per cent stake in the company and there is a high possibility that the Gurgaon based manufacturer will go for majority stake.
After splitting with Honda, Hero MotoCorp has been developing new motorcycles and engines with Erik Buell Racing, their technology partner and it seems that the association between these two auto makers is more than a technology alliance. Hero MotoCorp will start selling its range of products in United States and Canada from next year. These motorcycles and scooters will be sold through Erik Buell Racing dealerships which currently are in small numbers.
There is a high possibility of this same strategy will be used in the Indian market but both the companies. With the premium motorcycle segment growing at 30 per cent annually, Hero MotoCorp may bring in the EBR brand in India as a part of their brand building exercise. The company that is known to have the best fuel efficiency as its USP may also want to have the premium bike seller tag in its kitty. Only time will tell if Hero MotoCorp will launch the EBR 1190RX in India, but we are very confident that the Gurgaon based manufacturer will showcase the 1190RX super bike at the upcoming 2014 Auto Expo.
