Workers of the Bajaj Auto’s Chakan plant have called off their strike on Tuesday and will resume work from Wednesday ending there 50 days agitation. Vishwa Kalyan Kamgar Sanghatana (VKKS) – the union representing the workers said they decided to end the strike due to upcoming festive season that will pull in demands of company’s products. However, Bajaj Auto claimed that the strike has been called off ‘unconditionally’.
Last week Rajiv Bajaj had given ultimatum to its senior management of shifting 50 per cent of Chakan plant production to Aurangabad if the strike doesn’t get over within a week. Many workers had stopped coming to work as they demanded increase in their wage hike, allotment of company’s shares and reinstatement of sacked workers. However, the company strictly said no to the shares demand but was ready to consider reinstating some of the sacked workers.
This comes as a great breather for the Pune based manufacturer as the festive season is the time where they get maximum sales with the positive buying sentiment. We can expect the future launches from Bajaj to go on time and let’s hope the strike doesn’t happen again in future considering the fact they have many new motorcycle lined-up.
"With Diwali and Ganpati festivals coming up, we decided that it will be in the interest of all to end the stoppage of work. We will resume work from tomorrow," said Dilip Pawar, president, VKKS.
