Yamaha has unveiled a special edition XSR900 in association with Fiat's performance division, Abarth. Christened Yamaha XSR900 Abarth, this cafe racer will be produced in a limited run of just 695 units.
To set it apart from the crowd, the XSR900 Abarth gets a carbon fibre semi-fairing and rear seat cowl, low-slung handlebar and a titanium Akropovic exhaust system. It also gets custom touches like a suede seat with contrasting red stitching, grey paint job and Abarth logos to show the motorcycle's association with the Italian manufacturer. Under the skin is an 847cc inline triple engine delivering 113bhp and 87Nm of torque through a six-speed gearbox.
Yamaha's MotoGP team and Fiat have maintained close ties for many years now. At GBP 9,999 (Rs 8.23 lakh) the XSR900 Abarth is Rs 1.4 lakh more expensive than the standard XSR900. Even if you are willing to spend this kind of money on the XSR900 Abarth, we do not expect the XSR900 or the standard XSR900 to be launched in the Indian market. However, you can buy the standard streetfighter on which the XSR900 is based, the Yamaha MT-09 for Rs 10.2 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
