Yamaha has commenced export of India-made FZ25 to Argentina, Colombia, Mexico, Philippines and Sri Lanka. In the first quarter of this financial year, Yamaha shipped off 1,163 units of the FZ25 to the said markets.
While the FZ25 is actually based on the Brazil-spec Yamaha Fazer 250, it was given several tweaks to suit the Indian market. The muscular fuel tank, raised tail section, headlamp and stubby exhaust were revised to bring it in line with the bigger MT range. The engine was treated to Blue Core technology, while the motorcycle lost a few kilograms. In India, the Yamaha FZ25 got off to a good start, finding 3,584 new owners in its first month of sale and 2,299 new owners in May 2017.
However, the export numbers of the Yamaha FZ25 are insignificant when compared with the rest of the range. The company has announced its intentions to export 2.2 lakhs two-wheelers in the current year, a step up from 1.6 lakhs in the previous year. Although Yamaha has refused to comment on their annual projections for FZ25 exports, we expect the numbers to keep growing over the next few months.
