- Based on the fully-faired YZF-R15 V3
- Will be placed above the FZ V3.0
- Pricing is expected to be around Rs 1.25 lakhs (ex-showroom)
Yamaha has confirmed the launch its premium naked 150cc motorcycle, the MT-15 for India. The official launch is expected to take place by next month. Based on the fully-faired YZF-R15 V3, the MT-15 will be a performance-oriented naked streetfighter placed above the newly launched Yamaha FZ V3.0.
The Yamaha MT-15 takes its design inspiration from its elder siblings like the MT-09 and looks sharp and edgy. Going by the recent spy pictures, it will retain the same aggressive design as seen on the international version of the bike. It gets a LED head lamp and tail lamps along with a fully-digital instrument cluster. The ergonomics of the bike are relaxed but the slightly rear-set footpegs make it a bit sporty.
Powered by the same engine as the YFZ-R15 V3, it gets a 155cc, single-cylinder motor that churns out 18.7bhp and 15Nm of torque. This engine also gets VVA (variable valve actuation) technology and the six-speed gearbox is supported by a slipper clutch. Braking is handled by disc brakes on both the ends and it is expected to be equipped with dual-channel ABS, like the R15. The Indian version will get telescopic forks on the front to keep costs low and the rear will get monoshock.
The Yamaha MT-15 is likely to be priced around Rs 1.25 lakhs (ex-showroom) and it will lock horns with other streetfighters in this segment such as the KTM 125 Duke and the Bajaj Pulsar NS200.
