- Will focus on 150cc above premium bike segment
- Will focus on above 150cc premium bike segment
- Only scooters will be present in mass market
Yamaha is rumoured to focus on premium bikes from now on. The company plans to exit the mass-market motorcycle segment and focus on 150cc and above motorcycles.
This development was confirmed by Motofumi Shitara, chairman, Yamaha Motor India. The top honcho said that the mass-market segment will be taken care of by its scooters as the growth has been quite decent. However, the Japanese automaker hasn’t been able to make a big dent in the ever competitive mass-market segment.
Yamaha is now looking at motorcycles above 300cc and is also doing a feasibility study on the same. The company believes that it’s good to play with the brand’s racing DNA and bring bikes that will entice the young Indian buyers. They are also looking at a 10 per cent market share for Yamaha in the next 5-7 years.
Yamaha’s FZ 16 series has been doing well since the time of its launch. The company ventured out to 250cc segment with the FZ25 and the Fazer 25 but have been wanting to get more sales in that segment. With a new strategy in place, we might see bikes like the MT-03 making its way to the Indian market in the next couple of years.
