Yamaha Cygnus Ray ZR Street Rally vs Honda Dio vs Hero Maestro Edge: Competition Check

Yamaha recently launched a new variant of the Cygnus Ray ZR christened the Street Rally. We check out how it fares against its rivals the Honda Dio and the Hero Maestro Edge.

Design

All three scooters are targeted towards male buyers and sport sharp creases and lines on their bodywork. The Cygnus Ray ZR Street Rally and the Honda Dio have their headlamps mounted on the front apron which also integrates the turn indicators. On the other hand, the Maestro Edge’s headlamp is mounted on the steering unit with turn indicators on the front apron. Amongst the three, the Honda Dio is the only scooter that gets a full LED headlamp and LED DRL.

Features

The Yamaha Cygnus Ray ZR Street Rally is equipped with an LCD instrument cluster that displays speed, odometer and fuel level gauge. While the standard Honda Dio gets an analogue instrument cluster, the DLX version sports an LCD unit. It displays fuel level, trip meter, odometer, speedometer and clock. Meanwhile, the Maestro Edge makes do with an analogue speedometer and a small digital display that shows service indicator, trip meter and odometer.

While the Honda Dio and Hero Maestro Edge offer a combined braking system a standard, the Yamaha Cygnus Ray ZR misses out on that feature.

Engine

The Maestro Edge uses a 110cc motor that produces 8bhp and 8.7Nm of torque. The Dio is powered by a 109cc engine that churns out 8bhp and 8.9Nm of torque. The Yamaha Cygnus Ray ZR Street Rally has the least powerful engine here. Its 113cc engine is rated at 7.1bhp and 8.1Nm of torque.

Cycle parts

Suspension duties on the Cygnus Ray ZR and Maestro Edge are taken care of by telescopic forks up front. The Honda Dio however uses a trailing link setup for the front end. All three scooters gets a swingarm-linked monoshock at the rear. The Yamaha Cygnus Ray ZR Street Rally gets a disc brake at the front and a drum brake at the rear. The other two scooters make do with a drum brake setup on both ends.

The Dio has the biggest fuel tank capacity at 6-litres. The Maestro Edge offers a 5.5-litre fuel tank while the Cygnus Ray ZR has a 5.2-litre unit. While the Dio and Cygnus Ray ZR ride on 10-inch wheels at both ends, the Maestro Edge gets a bigger 12-inch front wheel upfront along with a 10-inch rear wheel.

Pricing

The Hero Maestro Edge is the most affordable scooter priced at Rs 51,300. The Dio comes in second at Rs 53,837. Carrying a price tag of Rs 57,898 the Yamaha Cygnus Ray ZR is the most expensive of the three.
