Yamaha is planning to launch the new Cygnus Ray ZR scooter by the end of this month. First shown at the 2016 Auto Expo, the new Ray ZR will be positioned between the Cygnus Alpha and the Fascino, with the youth as its target audience.
The Cygnus Ray ZR might be based on the same platform and engine as the standard Ray Z, but it gets a new look thanks to the redesigned front apron and headlamp. It also gets revised body panels which lend it an aggressive character and a completely restyled instrument cluster. The Ray ZR also gets a host of funky paint schemes and racy decals to complement the sharper body lines.
The Yamaha Ray ZR is powered by the same 113cc air-cooled powertrain which delivers 7bhp and 8Nm of torque through a CVT transmission. Like the standard Ray Z, the Ray ZR gets telescopic front suspension and rear swingarm-linked monoshock. Yamaha will offer the Ray ZR with get a front disc brake for the alloy wheel variant for an extra premium.
With deliveries expected to commence in the first week of next month, we can expect the Yamaha Ray ZR to be around Rs 2,000 more expensive than the model it replaces. It will be pitted against the Hero Maestro Edge, Honda Dio and the TVS Jupiter.
