Yamaha is going to launch the Cygnus Ray ZR in India on April 14. A successor to the Ray Z, the Ray ZR has undergone some major cosmetic changes to make it more appealing to the youth.
The Yamaha Ray ZR continues with the same aggressive design philosophy which made the current model so popular. The body panels though, have now been redesigned to give it a different look. The front gets a new fascia with a redesigned headlamp and new indicators. The Ray ZR also gets a host of funky paint schemes and racy decals to complement the sharper body lines.
Under the skin, the Ray ZR retains the same 113cc air-cooled powertrain from its predecessor. Churning out 7bhp and 8Nm of torque through a CVT transmission, this engine comes with Yamaha’s proprietary BlueCore technology. On the safety front, the Ray ZR will now get an optional disc brake for the alloy wheel variant, though this feature is sure to demand an extra premium.
The scooter segment in India has been growing by leaps and bounds and the Yamaha Ray Z has enjoyed a fair bit of success, despite it not being a mainstream scooter. The new Ray ZR will be positioned between the Cygnus Alpha and the Fascino, with the youth as its target audience. It will compete against the likes of the Hero Maestro Edge, Honda Dio and the TVS Jupiter
