Yamaha Cygnus Ray ZR First Look Review
We thought the Fascino will be the last scooter from Yamaha and they would focus more on motorcycles, but we were proved wrong at the 2016 Auto Expo. The company unveiled their new scooter – the Cygnus Ray ZR that is targeted towards young males.
If you look at this scooter closely, you will be reminded of the Ray Z and that’s because the Cygnus Ray ZR is based on the Ray Z. In order to make the Cygnus Ray ZR standout from its scooter family, Yamaha has taken the help of interesting decals and by adding new components.
The fascia is where the major changes and additions can be seen. The sharp nose, coupled with the inclusion of redesigned fairing looks good. And then there are sharp lines running all over to balance this style. While the position of the headlamp is exactly like the Ray Z, the turn indicators are now integrated into the lower section of the fairing and that looks pretty good. Come to the side and the only change you’ll see is that the Cygnus Ray ZR now uses dual body component instead of just one. It also sports few redesigned components and better decals. At the rear, the tail light is new and the integrated turn indicators have made way for individual indicators that are mounted on the rear mudguard. The exhaust design, too, is exactly like the Ray Z.
The only new component used on the Cygnus Ray ZR is the instrument cluster. Yamaha has tried to make it look eye catchy by using blue stickers in the background and also using silver plastic borders. The quality of the instrument cluster is decent, just like all other Yamaha scooters.
The Cygnus Ray ZR is powered by the same engine that powers the Ray Z. This 113cc engine churns out 7bhp at 7500rpm and peak torque of 8.1Nm at 5000rpm. The mill is mated to the CVT transmission. Interestingly, Yamaha will offer this scooter in two versions – drum brake and disc brake. And both these versions will be offered with two paint schemes. Also, the disc brake version is also equipped with alloy wheels, instead of steel ones. Yamaha will launch the Cygnus Ray ZR by May and will be the most expensive scooter in its lot.
