India Yamaha Motors is planning to launch the D’elight scooter in the Indian market. During a recent visit to ARAI facility in Pune, few members of Team-Bhp spied the bike parked inside the facility at the emission certificate lab along with few cars which are there for homologation. This makes us believe that the D’elight scooter is also being homologated.
The Yamaha D’elight is currently being sold in Europe and few other markets. The scooter’s overall design is very contemporary and is marketed as an affordable urban commuter. The D’elight is powered by an 114cc single-cylinder air-cooled fuel-injected engine that produces 7.10bhp at 7000rpm and maximum torque of 7.6Nm at 5500rpm. This engine is mated to a v-let gearbox delivering a smooth power band. In order to keep costs in check, the Indian market may get the carburettor version. The scooter weighs just 98kg and has a fuel tank capacity of 4.4 litres.
The company currently sells the Ray, Ray-Z and the Alpha scooter in India. All these scooters have similar body design and language. Having a scooter like the D’elight in the product portfolio, the customer will have a wide range of options to choose from. We can expect the D’elight to be launched in India sometime this year, with a not- so- cheap price tag.
