Yamaha has officially phased out the carburetted FZ, Fazer and the Crux from the Indian market. This move seems to have been triggered by the lack of demand for these models along with the presence of newer and updated products in the company's line-up.
With the launch of the version 2.0 Fazer, FZ and FZ-S, there had a gradual decline in the sales of the older carburetted models. This had led to the company halting production of these models a while ago. However, as a few dealerships across the country still had existing stock, the company's official website continued to display these models. Now that the existing inventory has been exhausted, Yamaha has now officially discontinued these models.
The Crux on the other hand, was the entry-level commuter motorcycle in Yamaha's range. While the motorcycles from this segment usually are the bread and butter models for any manufacturer, ruthless competition from the likes of the Hero Splendor and the Honda Dream series meant that the Crux rarely sold more than 2,000 units a month. Owing to this dismal performance, Yamaha had stopped the production of this model a few months ago. Now, with the company removing the model from the website, the model has been officially discontinued. While there hasn't been an official word regarding the same, we can expect Yamaha to launch a new and updated product in this segment, worthy of rivalling the likes of the Splendor and the Dream.
Apart from these models, Yamaha recently also discontinued the Ray, which is a precursor to the launch of the new Ray ZR scooter. This new 'moto-scooter', which made its debut at the 2016 Auto Expo, is expected to hit the showrooms by May.
