The Yamaha Cygnus Ray ZR has been launched in India at Rs 52,000 (ex-showroom, Delhi). Targeted at a young audience, Yamaha is betting big and eyeing a 10 per cent market share with the launch of this scooter. Currently, Honda is on the top spot with a market share of 46 per cent.
Roy Kurian, VP Sales and Marketing, Yamaha Motor India Sales Pvt. Ltd. said, “Out of the total demand of two wheelers in India, the scooter segment is soaring with 30 per cent contribution to the sales and we are looking at 10 per cent market share for this year.”
He added, “Since 2012, Yamaha’s Scooters were enthusiastically accepted in the market. With the launch of the Fascino in 2015, Yamaha further witnessed a steep growth in sales, which only testifies its strong product focus and market strategy. We are excited to launch the new Cygnus Ray-ZR which is all set to rev many hearts among Indian customers.”
The front of the Ray ZR gets a redesigned headlamp which is flanked by turn indicators, while the side profile flaunts sharper lines. The instrument cluster has also been redesigned to match the scooter’s funky character. It comes with the same 113cc air-cooled powertrain from the Ray Z. Developing 7bhp and 8Nm of torque through a CVT transmission, this engine comes with Yamaha’s proprietary ‘BlueCore’ technology. To improve the safety quotient, the Ray ZR will now get an optional disc brake for the alloy wheel variant.
The Ray ZR will compete with the likes of the Hero Maestro Edge, Honda Dio and the TVS Wego. Deliveries of the scooter will commence in the first week of May.
