After shooting past the Ray-Z and the Cygnus Alpha scooters a few months ago, the Fascino has now breached the magical 20,000 mark for monthly domestic sales. Despite being the most expensive Yamaha scooter sold in the country, the Fascino found 21,604 customers in April 2016 making it the top-selling two-wheeler in the company’s Indian portfolio.
While the Yamaha Fascino was mainly targeted at the youth, the scooter has struck a chord with a wide variety of customers. The Fascino’s positioning as a lifestyle vehicle makes it a rival to the Vespa, though the smaller capacity and the pricing strategy seem to have worked in its favour. Apart from the pricing, a promise of great fuel efficiency has also helped Yamaha draw customers to its showrooms. The Fascino’s 113cc Blue Core engine has been tuned to extract maximum fuel economy, with Yamaha claiming an efficiency of 66kmpl.
While the FZ, FZ-S and the Fazer have always occupied the top spot in Yamaha’s sales charts, this is the first time the Fascino has dethroned the premium 150cc commuters. While the numbers are still a far cry from other popular scooters like the Honda Activa 3G and the TVS Jupiter, the consistently rising sales figures narrate a success story. This popularity of Fascino shows the potential of premium scooters in the Indian market, opening up possibilities for other such premium offerings in the near future.
