At the launch of the FZ and FZ-S version 2.0 earlier this week, we asked Yamaha if we will see a Fazer with the new FI engine. Although we didn’t get a positive answer from the Japanese auto major, the spy pictures here confirm that Fazer Version 2.0 is indeed in the pipeline.
The undisguised test mule borrows the design cues from the new FZ and FZ-S including the new angular tank, redesigned tail and grab rail, tyre hugger and split seat. The fairing is also altered and the headlamps are lot sportier than before.
This model will get the new Blue Core engine with closed loop fuel injection that is now available with the FZ and FZ-S Version 2.0 series. The capacity is marginally lower at 149cc and the power rating has also reduced to 13.1bhp and 12.8Nm; however there should be some weight reduction which will improve the overall performance.
We think Yamaha will launch the new version of the motorcycle at the start of festive season in September. The prices are expected to be around Rs 82,000 and Yamaha will continue to sell the carburetted model for at least some time.
