Yamaha has issued an invitation to the media for a bike launch on 21 August and the rumours in the biking community point to the Fazer 25. The company hasn’t mentioned the name of the product in the invitation, but the latest sightings of their production-ready bike leads us to believe that it is the Fazer 25.
Based on the FZ25, the Fazer 25 will be targeted towards buyers who want a faired Yamaha motorcycle. The YZF-R15 also meets that requirement, however, this bike is sporty in its performance and riding position. And this might not suit the needs of the yuppie commuter. The Fazer 25, on the other hand, is a relaxed faired bike which can be used comfortably for touring and commuting. This faired Yamaha will share most of its cycle parts with the FZ25. However, the major change on the Fazer is the addition of a bulky fairing. Yamaha has gone a little overboard with the design here, however, there are many consumers in India who like such designs. So this bike will definitely find takers.
The Fazer 25 is powered by a 249cc single-cylinder fuel-injected motor. This mill generates 20bhp at 8000rpm and peak torque of 20Nm at 6000rpm. Gearbox is the same five-speed one that we see on the FZ25. In terms of features, the Fazer is equipped with an LED headlamp, and flanked by LED pilot lamps. To meet its touring requirements, the Japanese manufacturer has given the Fazer a larger windscreen. The bike also gets an engine cowl which makes it look a little sportier.
The Fazer 25 will be jostling for space against the Bajaj Pulsar RS200. What’s more, it is likely that Yamaha will mark this bike pricier than the FZ25 by at least Rs 8000 to Rs 12,000.
