More than two months after the fuel-injected Yamaha FZ v2.0 series was launched in India, some studio-pictures of its semi-faired faired version, the Fazer FI v2.0 have been leaked on the internet. Mechanically identical to the new FZ FI v2.0, the Fazer FI v2.0 will adorn a half-fairing and will be positioned above its naked sibling. Rumour mills suggest that the Fazer FI v2.0 will be launched before the end of this month.
All the body panels of the Fazer FI v2.0, except the fairing, seem to have been borrowed from the new FZ FI v2.0. The new half-fairing gets sharper lines and so does the new twin-headlamp. The lower part of the fairing gets faux air scoops, giving it a sportier appeal. A new set of racy decals complete the package. While the old fairing made its predecessor look hefty, the new leaner and sportier fairing adds a lot of flair to the new Fazer FI v2.0.
The powertrain, suspension, exhaust and all other mechanical bits in the Fazer FI v2.0 are shared with the new FZ series. It is powered by a single-cylinder 149cc engine which gets fuel injection technology. Mated to a five-speed gearbox, the engine churns out 13bhp and 12.8Nm of torque. Despite being less powerful than the old 153cc engine, the new powerplant gets Blue Core technology, which coupled with lowered weight of the motorcycle, promises better efficiency and performance.
While the new engine and reduced kerb weight might have improved the performance and efficiency of the motorcycle marginally, Yamaha definitely needs to work on improving the quality on the new motorcycles. The new Fazer FI v2.0 is expected to be offered in three colour schemes- red dawn, white cloud, and black hawk. The new fuel-injected FZ series has been priced around Rs 6,000 over the regular FZ motorcycles, which makes us predict that the new fuel-injected Fazer might be priced somewhere around Rs 86,000 to Rs 88,000.
