The new Yamaha Fazer FI v2.0 has been launched in India at Rs 83,850 (ex-showroom Delhi). The new Fazer is mechanically similar to the recently launched fuel-injected FZ series, though the redesigned semi-fairing enhances its visual appeal and sets it apart from its naked siblings.
The new Fazer FI v2.0 is powered by an air-cooled single-cylinder 149cc Blue Core engine. The fuel-injected engine is also used in the new FZ series and churns out 12.9bhp and 12.8Nm of torque through a five-speed gearbox. Yamaha claims that despite being less powerful than the carburetted version, the new fuel-injected Fazer has better performance and efficiency than the older motorcycle.
Cosmetically, the new Fazer gets a revamped semi-fairing with sharper lines and redesigned headlamp units. The lower part of the fairing gets edgy air scoops which add to the motorcycle’s appeal. While the old fairing made its predecessor look hefty, the new leaner and sportier fairing adds a lot of flair to the new Fazer FI v2.0. A new set of racy decals complete the package.
Talking about the new motorcycle, Mr. Roy Kurian, VP, sales and marketing of Yamaha Motor India Sales Pvt. Ltd, said, “We have introduced our new offering Fazer FI Version 2.0 particularly keeping the spirit of touring in mind, combining both fun & economy for the customers to ride free in the open blue sky. Our FZ FI and FZ-S FI version 2.0 introduced in June 2014, have been getting tremendous response and we are confident even the Fazer FI with our latest technology, ‘Blue Core’, will be heartily welcomed”.
When Yamaha launched the fuel-injected FZ in June, this year, it did a smart thing by not discontinuing the older model. This will not only help them increase its customer base, but also help it fill the gap in the company’s portfolio. The Japanese manufacturer has adopted a similar strategy for the new Fazer, as the motorcycle will be sold alongside the older model.
The Fazer FI v2.0 will be available in three colour schemes- red dawn, black hawk and white cloud. While it doesn’t really have any competition, the price tag makes the new Fazer FI v2.0 rival the bigger semi-faired motorcycles like the Hero Karizma and the Bajaj Pulsar 220F.
