Apart from its quite long name, the Yamaha FZ-S FI Version 4.0 Deluxe also gets a slightly longer list of features than the base model. We spent a few days with the bike recently and tested its various features, fuel efficiency, and other aspects to tell you if it's worth the purchase.
The first thing to grab our attention was the contrasting paint scheme of Majesty Red with the golden-coloured alloys. It’s not only flashy but seems very well done in terms of quality and enhances the FZ-S FI Version 4.0 Deluxe’s visual appeal.
While the styling hasn’t been altered on a large scale, the changes are still very evident. The front end has been tweaked with the new LED headlight, and the bike now comes with a larger console than before. Apart from that, this version of the FZ-S has retained a majority of its bodywork and we aren’t complaining.
Powering the bike is a 149cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine that dishes out 12.2bhp at 7,250rpm and a peak torque of 13.3Nm at 5,500rpm. It’s linked to a five-speed gearbox. The engine feels quite tractable for the most part and has a good level of refinement too. The surge in power is noticeable from 3,000rpm to 7,000rpm. Post that, the motor feels a little out of juice.
While we saw a speedometer-indicated top speed of 108kmph, the engine felt a little strained at anything around or above 100kmph. So, you would be better off keeping the speed below that.
Even on the handling front, the FZ-S FI Version 4.0 Deluxe feels agile and easy to switch directions. It not only feels stable but the light weight makes it easy to move the bike around when pushing manually or taking tight turns.
The FZ-S FI comes with a 282mm front disc and a 220mm rear disc with single-channel ABS. This setup has adequate braking prowess and can drop the speed very predictably. Overall, the FZ-S FI Version 4.0 Deluxe’s braking hardware is reliable.
Apart from an LED headlight, this model comes with a fully digital console that houses readouts like the speedometer, odometer, trip meter, fuel level, clock, tachometer, and more. Yamaha has also offered Bluetooth connectivity, which gives you access to SMS and call notifications. Additionally, the smartphone compatibility also offers fuel consumption details, last parked location, as well as maintenance recommendations and malfunction notifications.
But what about the suspension, ergonomics, build quality, and fuel efficiency? And should you spend close to Rs. 1.29 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) on the Yamaha FZ-S FI Version 4.0 Deluxe? Read our road test review to find all the answers.
