Yamaha’s new FZ25 plans to add a bit of sobriety in the world of fast and aggressive 250cc motorcycles. The design isn’t intimidating but the LED headlamp does turn heads. With the FZ25, Yamaha has tried to build a no-frills bike that has been competitively priced, gets a refined motor and has the capability to be ridden for long distances as well.
The instrument cluster doesn’t look as if it belongs to a 250cc motorcycle. The design is too simple, but does show average and real time fuel efficiency, two trip meters, clock, speed and tachometer.
The all-LED headlamp does add some character to the FZ25. The tail lamp is LED too, however, the turn indicators get traditional bulbs.
The seat offers astounding comfort. The cushioning and the width are perfect for someone who is on the heavier side.
The design DNA of the FZ25 is from the younger sibling – FZ16. However, the bulkier fuel tank and shrouds make the bike look muscular.
The FZ25 gets its power from a 249cc single-cylinder air-cooled motor that has oil cooling. This engine produces 20.6bhp at 8000rpm and maximum torque of 20Nm at 6000rpm. The gearbox is five-speed.
The build quality of the switchgear is good and is meant to last long. But it lacks the premium feel that comes with a premium bike.
Yamaha claims 43kmpl for the FZ25. So with a fuel tank capacity of 14 litres, expect this Yamaha to be ridden for close to 550km on one tank.
The FZ25 is available in three colours – blue, black and white.
