The Yamaha FZ-S FI might have been one of the most advanced bikes in the segment back in 2014, but there haven’t been any technological updates since then. Now though, Yamaha has introduced a rear disc brake for the bike, bringing it on par with the competition. However, if you are on the lookout for some other two-wheeler in a similar budget, here are the six options that the market offers -
The Suzuki Gixxer is the FZ-S’ direct rival. With a 155cc single-cylinder engine that produces 14bhp and 14Nm of torque, the Gixxer is slightly more powerful than the FZ-S. It is priced at Rs 82,192. A single-channel ABS is offered as optional extra, which will cost an additional Rs 5,900. Another direct rival of the FZ-S is the Bajaj Pulsar NS160, which retails at Rs 82,496. It is powered by a 160cc engine which delivers 15.3bhp and 14.6Nm of torque.
The Honda CB Hornet 160R is the most expensive bike in this segment, and will set you back by Rs 86,895. It also has the biggest engine of the lot, which displaces 162cc. However, with an output of 15bhp and 14.8Nm of torque, it is not as powerful as the Pulsar.
There are two other Bajaj products in this price range, both powered by 180cc powertrains. The Pulsar 180 is a streetfighter, with an output of 17bhp and 14Nm of torque. It is priced at Rs 83,603. For a little more, you can get your hands on the most affordable cruiser in the Indian market, the Avenger Street 180. The output might be lesser than the Pulsar 180, but it is more powerful than the FZ-S. The Avenger Street 180 produces 15.3bhp and 13.7Nm of torque. It will set you back by Rs 85,613.
If you prefer the convenience of a scooter, then you can land yourself a Vespa VXL 125 for Rs 84,517. The premium scooter is powered by a 125cc single-cylinder engine delivering 9.9bhp and 10.6Nm of torque. While all the bikes on this list are offered with a five-speed gearbox, the Vespa gets a CVT transmission.
