With the launch of its latest scooter, the Fascino, India Yamaha Motors is eyeing a growth in its monthly scooter sales volume by 50 per cent.
The Fascino is the fourth scooter from the Japanese manufacturer in the 110cc segment, but is also the best looking one. Targeted at the youth, the Fascino scooter is being marketed as a style and fashion statement rather than just a utility. Yamaha currently sells about 20,000 units of scooters per month. However, the top honcho sees the volumes moving up to 30,000 units over the next three months before touching 40,000 units per month by festive season
"With Fascino we think we will be able to come into the consideration set of scooter buyers, which so far was a challenge. Fascino is a unisex model and it will appeal to different set of buyers. We should be able to increase our monthly scooter volumes by 50% immediately," said Roy Kurien, VP, sales & marketing, Yamaha Motor India Sales.
With a price tag of Rs 52,500 (ex-showroom Delhi), Yamaha is clearly focusing on taking some sales away from the market leader, the Honda Activa. And we won’t be surprised if the scooter manages to do little more than the predicted sales because the scooter looks and feels like a great overall package at the price point.
