India Yamaha Motor has launched the YZF-R15 S at Rs 1.14 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). This variant will be sold alongside the YZF-R15 V 2.0, which has been on sale since the last four years.
The major difference between these two full-faired motorcycles is the seat. While the R15 V 2.0 had very well cushioned split seats, it was next to impossible for a pillion rider to sit on the bike for longer duration. The pillion rider sits higher than the rider and to make things worse, the integrated grab rail is not very user friendly.
The Japanese manufacturer says the reason behind the launch of the R15 S is customer feedback. Lot of customers complained about the rear seat, which wasn’t very comfortable. The single seat, which was first seen on the original YZF-R15 will do the job on this new version. Other than this, the R15 S will be available with new colour schemes. Mechanically, there are no changes. The bike will continue to be powered by the same 150cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine. This mill produces 16bhp at 8500rpm and peak torque of 15Nm at 7500rpm.
We appreciate Yamaha reacting to the market as per customer feedback. With two versions, it will be easy for a particular set of consumers to opt for this new bike. But if you are planning to settle down for the R15 S, you will have to shell out Rs 500 more than what you pay for the R15 V 2.0.
