Yamaha Motor has established a new entity called the Yamaha Motor Research and Development India Pvt Ltd (YMRI) at Surajpur in Uttar Pradesh. The new center will soon become the Yamaha R&D headquarters for India.
The new R&D center will develop low-cost products for the company with the world’s lowest cost model to be launched this year, followed by an India specific model that will be rolled out next year.
"Our objective is to develop the lowest cost model in the world and lowest cost parts in the world, which will also be exported to across the world." said Toshikazu Kobayashi, MD, YMRI.
The company is also targeting to sell 7.1 lakh units this fiscal year which includes domestic sales as well as exports. Yamaha India managed to sell 4.48 lakh units in the first 11 months of the last fiscal year. The Japanese manufacturer is also planning to build third factory in India to triple its annual production capacity to 2.8 million units by 2018.
